PRECONGRESS WORKSHOP (WS2): NEONATAL CRANIAL ULTRASONOGRAPHY
VENUE: ROOMS 2&3, BORNEO CONVENTION CENTRE
Cranial ultrasound has evolved to be an essential point- of- care facility in the neonatal intensive care setting. It is quick, non-invasive way to diagnose acute brain conditions such as haemorrhage and to aid in the decision making process of withdrawal of care in infants with severe brain injury or brain malformation. The skill of cranial ultrasonography is important to acquire by general paediatricians who spend a significant proportion of their time working in the neonatal unit. This requirement is even more necessary in busy units with a high turn-over but no personnel or sonographers dedicated to perform the ultrasound examination.
This workshop focuses on the basics of cranial ultrasound, discussing the fundamentals and technicalities to important aspects encountered in clinical practice such as routine screening, examination during acute situations and prognosis. This workshop will be facilitated by three neonatologists and a paediatric radiologist with vast experiences in the field of cranial ultrasonography. There will be ample opportunities for hands-on session in the second half of the workshop period and as such participation is limited to 24 people. This workshop is targeted for paediatricians who already have some exposure to cranial ultrasound but wish to refine or refresh their skills and knowledge in this field.
