PRECONGRESS WORKSHOP (WS1): ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY FOR THE NON-CARDIOLOGIST

VENUE: SARAWAK GENERAL HOSPITAL HEART CENTRE

WORKSHOP 1: ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY FOR THE NON-CARDIOLOGIST

2D and Doppler echocardiography is the cornerstone of diagnosis in congenital heart disease. Tissue Doppler imaging, 3D echocardiography and transoesophageal, intraoperative echocardiography are among the advances in this imaging technique that have made echocardiography a subspecialty in its own right today. Despite these advances, basic 2D and Doppler echocardiography is a technique that can be readily grasped by general paediatricians and neonatologists, enabling them to make quick and accurate diagnosis across a wide range of cardiac pathologies.

This 1 day workshop is conceived for this purpose, combining didactic lectures and hands-on sessions to introduce paediatricians to this versatile diagnostic tool. The workshop will be held at the Pusat Jantung Hospital Umum Sarawak (Cardiac Centre of Sarawak General Hospital) at Kota Samarahan. The faculty will consist of paediatric cardiologists from Sarawak General Hospital, Institut Jantung Negara, Kuala Lumpur, and one of the invited foreign speakers. Cardiovascular Technologists from IJN will assist in the hands-on sessions.
